Rescue from Gilligan’s Island

The Biblical principles are the Seven Deadly Sins, and the key scripture is
Mark 7:21-23: “For from within, out of men’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and make a man ‘unclean.’ ”

See the seven deadly sins of our seven stranded Castaways as they finally get the chance to go home! But before they escape the island, predictably, Gilligan gets lazy, the Skipper becomes angry, the Professor grows prideful, Ginger incites lust, Mary Ann envies Ginger, Mr. Howell gets greedy and Lovey Howell gets gluttonous.

Gilligan & the Skipper

The Biblical principles are Sloth & Anger, and the key scriptures are
Sloth:
Proverbs 6:9: How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep?

Anger:
Ephesians 4:26-27: “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.

Back in civilization, at work on their new boat, our two crewmen are not only at their wacky worst—lazy & angry—but also their unexpected best—diligent & patient! When the insurance company rejects their story on the first “Minnow” and demands that all the Castaways confirm the claim, the dysfunctional duo sets off to reunite with their friends.

Ginger

The Biblical theme is Lust, and the key scripture is
Proverbs 6:25-26: Do not lust in your heart after her beauty or let her captivate you with her eyes, for the prostitute reduces you to a loaf of bread, and the adulteress preys upon your very life.

The movie star spotlights chastity as she finds she doesn’t want to tempt Hollywood with a comeback—because Hollywood wants to tempt the audience with too much lust! But after Gilligan accidentally points out that wholesome movies have been big hits, the film producer realizes it is okay for Ginger to say: I Don’t Lust You Anymore.

The Professor

The Biblical theme is Pride, and the key scripture is
Proverbs 16:18: Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.

The teacher is tested when he must choose between a) pride or b) humility at the University. When the Professor humbly dedicates himself to low-profile work on his experiments, the boastful Dean pushes him to deliver speeches to promote the school. Now the Professor must learn a lesson on how to keep pride in—and out of—his work!

Thurston & Lovey Howell

The Biblical principles are Greed & Gluttony, and the key scriptures are
Greed:
Luke 12:15: Then he said to them, "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."

Gluttony:
Proverbs 23:1-3: When you sit to dine with a ruler, note well what is before you, and put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony. Do not crave his delicacies, for that food is deceptive.

At a dinner party, the Howells appear as they usually are—greedy & gluttonous—as well as how they should be—generous & restrained! When their snobby guests insult Gilligan and the Skipper, money and materialism go out the door—along with the guests—as the Howells realize that their dear friends are the only thing they need more and more of!

Mary Ann

The Biblical principle is Envy, and the key scripture is
Proverbs 14:30: A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.

On her wedding day, a hesitant Mary Ann goes from envious to envied—and eventually finds contentment! While Mary Ann frets because her old fiancé is now a stranger, Gilligan and the Skipper learn the maid of honor and the groom are really the ones in love! And Mary Ann sees why anyone who is green with envy is usually blue about it!

Here on Gilligan’s Isle—Again

The Biblical principles are the Seven Holy Virtues, and the key scripture is
Colossians 3:12: Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

When the Professor laments their encounters with the “Seven Deadly Sins” (his words!), Mary Ann remarks they never had those problems before—and the Skipper says it is because they learned to get along. Then Gilligan suggests another three hour tour. Yet, the Castaways continue to live out the seven holy virtues—even after they crash back on the island!
